Left, Right… Or Local? The Power of Independent Leadership

In all my years of public service, one thing has remained constant: I have always been Independent.
Not just during elections. Not just when it’s convenient. Always.
Because I believe local government should be about people, not party politics.
I’ve never had to answer to a party whip or toe a national line. My loyalty has always been to the residents of Fylde East—and that’s exactly how it should be.
At a time when our local services are under pressure, our green spaces are under threat, and major decisions are being made about the future of Fylde behind closed doors, one thing is becoming clearer by the day:
We need representation that works for people—not political parties.
No party line. Just a straight line to the people.
Let’s be honest—party politics often gets in the way of common sense. Whether it’s national agendas being forced on local issues, or councillors being told how to vote by a party whip, it’s easy to forget who’s actually supposed to be in charge: you.
As an Independent, I don’t take instructions from a party headquarters. I’m not here to climb a political ladder or make friends in Westminster. I’m here for one reason: to represent Fylde East—honestly and independently.
When Party Politics Gets in the Way
We’ve seen time and time again how national politics disrupt local priorities. Here in Fylde:
The Conservative-led council failed to act decisively on Kirkham Baths, dragging their feet while costs soared and the community lost access to a vital service.
Labour is pushing through Local Government Reorganisation—but has done little to reassure rural communities about their future voice or representation.
And across the board, party councillors vote along political lines, even when the community’s interests are clearly different.
“If a decision doesn’t make sense for Fylde, I won’t vote for it. It’s that simple.”— Peter Collins
Independents Can Scrutinise Without Fear
When you’re independent, you can ask the hard questions—without worrying about upsetting your party.
I’ve done that.
✅ I’ve chaired the working group that developed a cheaper, less destructive alternative cable route for the Morgan & Morecambe windfarm.
✅ I’ve challenged the Council’s inaction on Kirkham Baths and called for real funding, not PR stunts.
✅ I’ve questioned decisions about planning, transport, and spending—because Fylde residents deserve answers.
Real Representation Starts with Listening
Politics should never be about titles, party colours, or who shouts the loudest. It should be about listening to the people who live here.
That’s why I regularly meet with residents, read every email, and bring your views into every meeting I attend. If elected again, I’ll ensure local issues that matter to you stay front and centre, including:
✔️ Protecting our greenbelt and supporting the alternative cable route
✔️ Fixing our roads and improving transport connections
✔️ Restoring Kirkham Baths and investing in local facilities
✔️ Standing firmly against fracking and promoting sustainable solutions
✔️ Challenging overdevelopment and protecting homes from flooding
✔️ Creating quality jobs and local opportunities
✔️ Ensuring Fylde’s voice is heard in local government reform
✔️ Delivering honest, independent leadership with no party interference
Because the best decisions aren’t made in party rooms—they’re made with the people who live and work here.
This Election Is About Fylde’s Future—Not Party Politics
On May 1st, you have a choice.
You can vote for a name on a party list—someone who may never speak up when it matters. Or you can vote for someone who’s already done the work, already challenged the system, and already proven they’ll fight for Fylde first.
“When the party line conflicts with the community’s needs—whose side do you want your councillor to be on?”— Peter Collins
